Welcome to the Cougar Chorus, where students lift their voices in joyful praise, teamwork, and musical excellence! Open to students in grades 4-8, our chorus is a vibrant part of student life at Christ the King, offering a fun and faith-filled way to grow in confidence, collaboration, and creativity.
Under the direction of Mrs. Linda Younkin, the Cougar Chorus performs at school liturgies, special events, and community celebrations throughout the year. Whether you're a seasoned singer or just beginning, all are welcome to join and discover the joy of making music together!
A Letter from Mrs. Younkin
Welcome to the Cougar Chorus!
The Cougar Chorus is a joyful community of fourth through eighth-grade singers who share a love of music and worship. Our primary role is to lead music for our Wednesday morning all-school Masses. This is an opportunity for students to participate actively in the liturgy through song.
Rehearsals
Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 7:45–8:30 a.m.
School Music Room
In addition to leading weekly Mass, the Cougar Chorus sings for a variety of special events throughout the year, including the Living Rosary, Confirmation at the Cathedral, Stations of the Cross, and the Sunday Mass during Catholic Schools Week.
A highlight of our year will be traveling to Belleville on Saturday, February 28, for the Pueri Cantores Youth Choral Festival — a beautiful day of singing, learning, and worship with other Catholic choirs, culminating in a joyful festival Mass. You can learn more about it at: https://www.pcchoirs.org.
Our repertoire encompasses a diverse range of sacred music, spanning from Baroque to Jazz, sung in English, Latin, French, Italian, and even Swahili.
Through this music, students develop a deeper appreciation for our rich Catholic tradition while cultivating musical and leadership skills.
Beyond our liturgical responsibilities, the Cougar Chorus occasionally performs at local community events, prayer services, and nursing homes, sharing the joy and comfort that music brings to others.
Music is a sacred gift, one that nurtures faith, confidence, and a sense of community. Whether your child is an experienced singer or just beginning their musical journey, they are warmly welcomed into this choir family.
There is a $50 annual participation fee, which helps cover the cost of music, materials, and other program expenses.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. I look forward to working with your young singer!
Musically yours,
Mrs. Linda Younkin
