What is the School Advisory Council?
The council is composed of parents, stakeholders, school administration, and the pastor. As mandated by diocesan policy, the council exists strictly as a consultative body to advise the pastor and the principal. When called upon, the council gives feedback to the pastor and principal regarding policies and standards for the school. Administrators are responsible for developing methods and programs to implement policy. Matters involving curriculum, personnel, and individual student concerns of a confidential nature are solely the purview of administrators and are not appropriate topics for school council consideration. The pastor appoints school council members in consultation with the principal.
What are the responsibilities of the council members?
The council serves as a body representing all school families in the interest of the school. Members serve as collaborators with the school administration to support and strengthen the operation of the school and to promote a better understanding of and support for Catholic education. Members assist in developing and assessing the long-term strategic plan for the school, as well as assisting the pastor and principal in identifying needs and concerns so objectives can be reached effectively. Members also assist in the public relations and promotion of the school. Members are expected to be in attendance at council meetings which are held in the parish center at 5:30PM on the first Tuesdays of September, November, January, March, and May. Meetings may be moved/rescheduled with public notice.
